If it makes you feel any better, all the butterflies and moths that i collect and photograph are not killed for this. They're bought from a captive breeding program that work to conserve natural habitats and all die naturally.

well , actually it DOES make me feel better lol.
I am sorry but apparently I was mislead because your taxidermies mostly are in top condition and like you of course do know to , it is the most common practice to work with insects as long as they're "fresh adults".

It's that that I dispise not the conservating itself ( I dealt a bit with the topic because I am breeding mantises and thought about learning to prepare dead ones myself but I just can't disembowel them , it's too gross xD )

Nope, i'm very strict about whom i get them from with the butterflies/ moths. Plus some sellers aren't exactly bothered about selling rare species even though it is illegal. Most of the beetles are from an old victorian collection i purchased so i can't say about them but they are over 100 years old.

I'm not surprised that makes you squeemish, it does me when all i'm doing is re-setting them (no innards involved). I thought about having a pet mantis, but i'd have noone to look after it while i was on holiday, but once something is alive in my house i wouldn't dream of harming it.
